On Thursday 29 August, Year 9 Humanities students studying Geography participated in an incursion to the Concordia Community Garden. The incursion featured guest speakers Amanda Stewart from Mitre 10 Unley and Sue Kleinig, Alumni and Donor Relations Manager at Concordia, both of whom have played an important role in supplying materials for and looking after the garden since its establishment in 2020. The guest speakers spoke to students about the importance of understanding the basic principles of soil quality, regular maintenance and seed selection with regard to the various abiotic factors that affect the garden. Involvement in the Community Garden links with the Year 9 students’ studies of Biomes, Ecosystems and Food Security and keen gardeners from the cohort will have the opportunity to engage in spring seed sowing in the coming weeks.
