We are excited and impressed by our talented Year 9 Visual Art student, Evie (9GOWE), who has recently entered two portraits in Australia’s oldest portrait prize, the Archibald Portrait Prize and the Young Archie Portrait Prize.

Her entry for the Archibald Prize features well-known South Australian Anne Vanstone.

“I chose to paint the Hon. Ann Vanstone KC for the Archibald Prize because, as a fellow South Australian resident, I wanted to highlight her as an inspiring leader who has made remarkable contributions as a judge and ICAC commissioner. This portrait celebrates her achievements and her significance as a successful woman in leadership”.

The Young Archie invites budding artists between the ages of five and 18 to submit a portrait of a person who is known to them and plays a significant role in their life.

Evie’s subject, Concordia Art teacher Terri Moore, said she was honoured to be selected by Evie as her subject.

“This portrait represents Terri Moore, a Visual Arts teacher and practising artist. Having taught internationally and in South Australia, she brings a wide range of experience to her teaching. She is committed to building strong connections between the arts and the community. I chose to paint her because she encourages students to experiment, think creatively, and share their artistic ideas with confidence.”

We wish Evie all the best in the significant Australian Portrait Prize and are impressed by her confidence and ability to enter such an iconic art competition. Well done, Evie!
