Palace Nova cinemas once again hosted the 2026 German Film Festival, holding screenings of selected films for school students. On Friday of Week 6, the Year 10, 11 and 12 German students attended a screening of Das Geheime Stockwerk (The Secret Floor), a thought-provoking film that tells the story of Karli, who discovers a time portal (an elevator) in the rundown, old hotel in the Alps where he has moved with his parents. When Karli is transported back to1938, he works together with two friends to solve a mystery hidden behind the walls of the hotel. 

As well as being a gripping mystery, the film provided students with insights into the rise of National Socialism, and the escalating persecution of the Jews during this period. This excursion was also an excellent opportunity for students to develop their aural language skills and use their German outside of the classroom environment.
