Year 9 Drama Showcase

Creativity, Collaboration and Student Leadership
25 June 2026

The recent Year 9 Drama Showcase was a wonderful celebration of creativity, collaboration and student voice. Every aspect of the performance was completely student driven, with students taking ownership of the creative process from beginning to end.

Working collaboratively, students devised and wrote their own scripts, carefully crafting performances that reflected their ideas, imagination and growing confidence as theatre-makers. Beyond the performances themselves, students were also responsible for designing the lighting and sound, which was operated by Mary 11RSOM and Callum 7RBRO. The Year 9s thoughtfully considered how each technical element could enhance mood, atmosphere and storytelling. Their commitment, teamwork and attention to detail resulted in a polished and engaging showcase that demonstrated the breadth of their developing skills.

The showcase was built upon an inspiring workshop led by a professional physical theatre practitioner, who challenged students to explore the powerful connection between the mind and body in performance. Through a series of practical activities, students discovered the importance of physical awareness, focus and ensemble work, learning that authentic storytelling comes from the mind and body working as one. The techniques and ideas explored during the workshop became the foundation for many of the performances presented in the showcase.

It was incredibly rewarding to see students embrace creative risks, support one another and confidently bring their ideas to life on stage. Their willingness to experiment, collaborate and problem-solve highlighted not only their artistic growth but also the resilience and leadership they developed throughout the process.

Congratulations to all of our Year 9 Drama students on an outstanding showcase and for the passion, professionalism and creativity they demonstrated throughout the semester.

We now look forward to an exciting Semester 2 as Year 9 Drama students’ journey into the fascinating world of Renaissance Theatre. Through exploring its rich history, influential playwrights, performance conventions and enduring impact on modern theatre, students will continue to expand their theatrical knowledge while developing new performance and creative skills.
