New Careers and Industry Connections Office
I’ve just moved into the new Careers and Industry Connections office and invite students to please come by. This wonderful new resource is located off the hallway in the library and I encourage students to drop in with questions, grab an information booklet or two, seek help developing a resume or applying for a job or even just say, “Hi!”
Work Experience
More than 130 Year 10s participated in a very positive week of work experience in the final week of Term 2. We had students working in schools, real estate, physiotherapy, hospitals, laboratories, architecture, hospitality, building and construction, and much more. The students all reported having a valuable learning experience. Some placements have even led to employment offers.
Darcy (10NBOY) spent a week at Blue Crystal Solutions, an IT managed services and consulting company, and had a terrific time.
“It was really fun and interesting to learn what an IT partner actually does and also how to build my own website.”
Meanwhile, the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Department of General Medicine hosted Sophie (10NBOY), who had a busy and memorable week.
“I really enjoyed being a part of the Emergency Medicine Team, seeing a wide variety of cases and seeing different kinds of patients all across the hospital.”
Exploring Futures – Careers Evening
On Monday 3 August our Senior School students listened to first-hand experiences from more than 20 professionals about a range of Careers at Concordia College’s annual Exploring Futures Careers Evening. They also visited expo stalls to explore tertiary options and connect with a variety of industries.
Roxley (10VNAR) said,
“It was good to speak with the people who actually do the job. It was interesting to learn how many different jobs are available in the Australian Defence Force.”
Penny (10BWHA), who attended four different presentations, said,
“The evening enabled me to broaden my options and not have such a closed-mind set.”

SATAC
The SATAC website for applying for university and TAFE courses in SA/NT opened on Monday 3 August. All of the Year 12s will hear a presentation about SATAC applications on Friday 21 August.

Opportunities at the University of Tasmania
Feed Your Mind, Feed the World is a free three-day camp open to all Australian Year 11 and 12 students who are curious about where agriculture could take them. The University of Tasmania offers the Bachelor of Agricultural Science and the Bachelor of Agriculture and Agribusiness, giving you the flexibility to focus on hands on science, innovation, or the business side of the industry.
- Dates: 7–9 December 2026.
- Cost: Free, though travel isn't covered. Interstate students may be eligible for up to $400 towards flights.
- How to apply: Submit an expression of interest. Your application will be assessed on your response explaining why you want to take part in the camp.
From Critters to the Cosmos is a practical learning experience open to all 2027 Australian Year 12 students. This field-based experience is designed to inspire and challenge you through hands-on natural science activities, including study of geological formations, animal and plant observations, participation in drone navigation, a visit to an observatory, with integrated mathematical and chemistry applications. It's a practical taste of the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Geospatial Sciences and Bachelor of Natural Environments and Conservation.
- Dates: Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 April 2027
- Cost: Covered by the university. Interstate students will be eligible for reimbursement of up to $500 for air travel.

Considering a Career as a Doctor?
If you’re seriously considering a career in medicine, medical work experience provides insight into the field, helps develop skills and attributes, and offers networking opportunities, but medical work experience can be hard to find. That's why NIE has developed the Future Doctors Australia program; a four-day experience for ages 14 to 18 that provides an opportunity to gain medical work experience in a safe, structured environment. You'll spend time with current junior and senior medical students, as well as senior clinicians and medical specialists, learning about their fields, asking questions and learning hands-on skills.
The program runs in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth throughout the rest of 2026 and into 2027. It includes over 15 hours of face-to-face interaction with clinicians, morning tea and lunch, for $2,490. Find dates, locations and availability at Future Doctors Australia.

Early childhood education plays a vital role in supporting the development, learning and wellbeing of children from birth to five years old. Through play-based learning, children build important life skills that help them get ready for school. Working in early childhood education involves providing care, guiding children’s learning, and planning, leading and assessing educational programs.
