On Friday 31 July, 90 students from across our 3 campuses participated in the Write a Book in a Day Competition, beginning at 8am and finishing at 8pm. In total, 14 groups of 5–9 students had 12 hours to write and illustrate a digital book from start to finish! Pleasingly, this event has doubled in size compared to last year!

Students were given some parameters and also five random words that needed to be included in their story. They worked out who would do what and then busied themselves doing it. There were authors, illustrators, editors, timekeepers and organisers, who all worked together. There was a gentle hum of voices throughout the day. The students were really happy to finally have their creation uploaded!

These books will be sent to children’s hospitals around Australia, for sick children to access. The books are also being judged. Each student will receive a copy of their book, and there will be a copy added to the library collection too.

It was wonderful to see the creativity, teamwork, perseverance, stamina and new friendships made through this cross-campus event.
