Across every year level, our students are encouraged to explore and participate in the arts and languages, developing skills and following their passions.
Visual Arts
Visual Arts are a vital part of a balanced, well-rounded education, enabling students to creatively explore their world, interpret that which has gone before, and communicate ideas and emotions. At every stage, students engage with a wide range of media, progressing in their senior years to a deeper exploration of theoretical, art-making and curatorial practices. Students also work with practising artists through our Artist-in-Residence program and, in previous years, have enjoyed the biennial Art Trip to Europe, visiting Italy, France and Spain.
Drama
Drama gives students an understanding of human behaviour, the human condition and themselves. Through Drama, they build self-confidence in front of their peers and the wider community. As a subject, it innately relies on critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication – the 21st Century learning skills needed for success now and in the future. We also encourage our students’ skill development and love of performing through workshops and annual productions.
English
Through the study of English, students build skills and knowledge which help them develop as capable, confident and creative communicators. As well as improving literacy skills used in daily life and learning in other subject areas, English classes invite students to engage with, respond to and create a wide range of texts – enhancing and extending their understanding of different topics, times, places, perspectives and people.
Humanities
Studying Humanities helps students better understand themselves, the world and the historic events that have brought us to today. Inquiry-based humanities learning in the Primary School culminates in the Year 6 Exhibition, focusing on the UN Global Development Goals, before studying Individuals and Societies in the Middle School. Across these years, students have many opportunities to engage with social sciences, History and Geography in a wide range of ways. In the Senior School, students can focus their attention in key areas such as Legal Studies, Business Innovation, Geography and History.
Languages
Our Languages program aims to encourage and equip students to become critical and competent communicators in a language other than their mother tongue. Language proficiency gives students more access to other cultural experiences, developing cultural understanding. German is taught from Reception to Year 6. From Year 7, students choose to study either German or Chinese, using the language in everyday situations and studying a variety of language texts.
Music
Our Director of Music and specialist Music teachers support an enviable mix of around 30 ensembles, public performances, overseas tours, the annual musical and our well-regarded Special Interest Music program.
Music is an important part of learning and life at Concordia. Our aim is to enhance student wellbeing by providing quality Music education in an inclusive, safe and stimulating artistic environment, delivered within purpose-built facilities. Beginning in our Primary School, your child will enjoy Music lessons as part of the curriculum. From Year 7, musically gifted students can apply, or may be invited to join, our Special Interest Music program, studying Musicianship, Ensemble Performance and Music Arrangement.
With an extensive instrumental and vocal tuition program delivered by 40 excellent teachers, students have access to private lessons in their chosen instruments during the school day.
We offer music scholarships for highly skilled and motivated instrumentalists.
