Ensemble Camp at Balyana Conference Centre

On 21, 22 and 23 February, the Balyana Conference Centre hosted eight of Concordia’s major ensembles for three days of rehearsals and workshops in preparation for the musical year ahead. Taking part in these essential sessions were Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Big Bands 1, 2 and 3, The Jazz Collective, String Ensemble and Chamber Strings. In addition to their regular directors, each ensemble also had the special opportunity to work with guest conductors from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, as well as from Adelaide University, making these days even more fun and educational. As well as wonderful music making, it was a valuable chance for the students to get to know each other a little better, which is an important element when working within musical teams such as these. Much was achieved, and we look forward to hearing the “fruits” of these days in the student’s performances throughout the year.

Concordia Students Perform at "Supermassive"

On Sunday, 25 February, a number of Concordia’s instrumentalists participated in a festival held in Victoria Square called “Supermassive”. This festival involved workshops, as well as performances by international artists, including Big Band 1 director Adam Page. Concordia’s involvement started with Adam teaching our Concert Band and Wind Ensemble his composition for the event, then on the day our students joined a professional band to play this energetic and fun piece as they marched around Victoria Square in the role of a “New Orleans 2nd Line”. Congratulations to all who participated.
