In today’s society, Geography is a vital subject that all young people should study. Understanding places and people, and the socio-economic and environmental interactions at local, national and global scales is important to the future of Australia. So when we received Concordia’s results for the annual Australian Geography Competition, we were delighted to discover that our school had four state winners!
Four hundred students from Years 7-12 participated in the competition in early May. Over 26% of these students scored a Credit or higher, with 28 students overall achieving a High Distinction. Particular mention needs to be made of the four students who achieved first in South Australia for their age division:
- Year 7 – Elijah 7AMA (equal first)
- Year 8 – Olivia 8VNT (first in South Australia, and top 1% in Australia)
- Year 9 – Samuel 9KNIC and Angus 9SWH (equal first)
These results are an outstanding achievement. And it is promising to know that, through a study of Geography, students at our school have a better understanding of the world around them.
Congratulations to Holly 10MHA who has been selected for the South Australian Water Polo team (the Adelaide Jets) in the 2017 16 and Under National Club Championships held in Hobart from 27 September – 2 October. We wish Holly all the best as she prepares to compete at the championships!
