From the Concordia Campus Principal

Paul WeinertStaffing Appointments

It is with pleasure that I announce that Paul Bannister has been appointed as the Director of Student Learning and Clay Watkins as the Assistant Head of Middle School. There was a high calibre field of applicants for these roles. Both Paul and Clay show excellent leadership qualities and a genuine understanding of the culture of Concordia College. They regard teaching as a vocation and a privilege, and are passionate about learning and seeking positive outcomes. Their focus is always the students and working side by side with them to offer every student the best possible opportunities to be the best they can. They plan to further develop their roles and connections with St John’s Campus, and look forward to continuing their work with students, staff and parents.

Hannah Rosie, the Acting Head of Food Technology, accepted the permanent position as Head of Department when offered the position from a group of highly qualified applicants. Hannah brings enthusiasm, experience and a high level of collaborative skills to the role. Her creativity has strongly influenced the flavour and culture of the Department.

Brendan Toohey, currently at Immanuel College, has been appointed International Baccalaureate Diploma Coordinator. He has international and local experience so will bring wide and relevant experience to the role. He teaches a range of subjects including History and Christian Studies, and is keen to work closely with students, teachers and parents.

Elke Cunningham, who has been a contract teacher at Concordia Campus for a number of years, won the continuing position as an Art teacher from a strong field of applicants. We are pleased to have her as a permanent staff member and look forward to her continuing contributions.

Connie Held and Corrina Ridley are on Long Service Leave. Connie’s English classes are being taught by Rachel who was with us in Term 3, and the German class is being taught by Jane Graham who is the German teacher at St John’s Campus. Corrina’s PE and Science classes are being taught by Scott Nagel who has worked at the College previously, and Steph Sutherland is the Year 7 Sports Coordinator.

We are grateful to have such genuine, capable teachers and leaders at the College. We wish them God’s blessings in all their endeavours.

Valedictory Service 2018

Last night the 2018 Valedictory Service was held at the Adelaide Town Hall to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2018. It was a wonderful night with speeches from Mr Paul Weinert, Concordia Campus Principal, and Mr Stephen Rudolph, LEA Executive Director, as well as our outgoing School Captains, Jacob Kemp and Cate Sexton. The theme for the night was “Pressing on towards the goal,” and it was a fitting motif as the students prepare not just for their final assessments but also for their life ahead. We were very lucky to have several Old Concordians present the Valedictory Service Awards. Mr James Aish ('13) presented the Sports Awards, Mr Caleb Wright ('00) presented the Arts Awards, and Ms Colleen Prideaux ('57) presented the Community Awards.

Peer Support Camp

The annual Peer Support Camp was held up at Woodhouse in Week 10 of Term 3. All Year 10 students ventured up the hill for some outdoor education in the form of the high ropes course and testing their mettle against Challenge Hill. The students also went through what it means to be a Peer Support Leader in some small and large group sessions. They were also responsible for cooking a meal for their peers. The students conducted themselves really well. Most of them willingly took on the challenge of going without a mobile phone for three days and they are commended for doing this. Thanks to all who contributed to making the camp possible.
