Concordia Unveils Peace Pole and Indigenous Artwork

4 June 2024

For Reconciliation Week 2024, the College was proud to unveil its new Rotary Peace Pole, a symbol of our commitment to peace locally and globally. An initiative of Rotary Adelaide and Rotary in South Australia, the Peace Pole was donated to the College by grandparent Oliver Clark AO. With its origin dating back to 1955, over 250,000 Peace Poles are now found across the world in almost 200 countries, bearing the Universal Peace Message ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’. Ours is written in Kaurna, German, Mandarin and English.

Among other activities, another unique component complementing the College’s Reconciliation Week commemorations in 2024 was the production of a new original artwork titled “The Meeting Place”, designed and created by Concordia College students from all three campuses, with Kaurna artist Sam Gollan. The finished artwork is stunning and serves as a striking reminder of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation. It is now displayed in the Fortiter Gymnasium. For more information about the artwork, read the Reconciliation Week article in the Term 2, Week 6 edition of Concordia Connect.
